Message	contract. You might be surprised if you were to learn how many 'nuisance' infringement-of-copyright suits many artists and labels have to settle out of court, because settling is cheaper than taking it to trial, even if it's a worthless lawsuit. It costs them a lot of time and money and keeps lots of label lawyers working overtime. By making you sign your rights away, it prevents you from claiming that you wrote their next #1 hit.
